On May 14, the courts at Picklr Winnipeg South belonged to the next generation. Pickleball Manitoba ran its High School Provincial Championship here, and watching teenagers grind through tight matches and cheer each other between points was the kind of day that tells you where this sport is headed in the province.

The Next Generation of Manitoba Pickleball
High school pickleball is still young in Manitoba, which made a provincial championship feel like a marker, proof the sport has taken root with players who’ll carry it for decades. The level of competition surprised people. These weren’t casual rallies; kids were resetting hard drives, chasing down lobs, and playing real points under pressure, with the rest of their schools watching. The energy from the players, competing hard, then cheering the next group on, is exactly what makes a young sport stick.
A Partnership with Pickleball Manitoba
Pickleball Manitoba organized and ran the championship; Picklr Winnipeg South provided the courts and the room. Hosting the provincials is the kind of partnership we want to keep building, when the provincial body and a dedicated indoor club work together, players get a real stage for events like this one, indoors and weather-proof, on courts built for competition.
Big Things in Manitoba Pickleball
A high school provincial championship doesn’t happen in a sport that’s standing still. Between events like this, growing student turnout, and a home club to host them in, the foundation in Manitoba is getting real. It’s never too late to pick up a paddle, and for a lot of these students, it’s just the beginning.
