In 2016, Jorge Barragan picked up a paddle for the first time—expecting a fun hobby and finding a life-changing passion. What started with friendly games quickly turned into a vision for something much bigger after witnessing the unmatched energy and demand for pickleball in his community, especially among youth.
Sparked by community spirit and driven by an unmet demand for year-round indoor play, The Picklr was born—and today, with over 500 locations sold and in development worldwide, the brand is transforming the way people play pickleball.
Now Canada is next!
The Picklr Canada was founded by a like-minded group of Canadian business leaders and passionate sports enthusiasts who saw firsthand the impact The Picklr was making across the U.S. After co-founder Bernie Plett, hosted franchise executives in Winnipeg—a city where winters are long, but community spirit runs deep—the response was overwhelmingly positive. Visits to several U.S. clubs sealed the deal: the opportunity was too powerful to ignore.
In the fall of 2024, we officially launched The Picklr Canada, acquiring exclusive rights to grow the brand nationwide. Our Canadian team brings together an unparalleled track record across consumer sales, technology, real estate development, sports, marketing, and hospitality. But more than that, we’re united by one vision: making pickleball more accessible, more social, and more fun for everyone in Canada.
